He is survived by Marilynn, his two sons and daughter, their spouses, and eight grandchildren. In 1989, he married the love of his life, Marilynn Clark Usedom, who he met on the tennis courts in Yuba City, CA. His oldest son, Michael, was born in 1957 followed by William in 1961 and Janice in 1964. Shortly after, he went through Officer Candidate School and served three years with the Navy Sea Bees as a Korean War veteran. He married his first wife, Laura Ellen Spencer in 1954.

He obtained Bachelor and Masters Petroleum Engineering degrees and went to work for Standard Oil in Taft, CA, in 1951. His family moved to Rio Vista, CA, for his third grade and he called it home until graduating from Stanford University. Walt was a native Californian, born in Los Angeles. Chi Psi has lost a special and well-loved Brother. The Blatt family has lost a special husband, father, and grandfather.

He went to his eternal heavenly rest on August 28, 2021. Subsequently, Doug had further surgery and rehab, but his body just couldn’t recover. The Blatt's and Edson's put on a terrific party and the other attendees had an extraordinarily wonderful time. He and Marge were determined that the reunion would go forward. Doug experienced a ski accident in mid-April and had surgery weeks before the reunion. Little did the attendees know how memorable it would be. Twelve Brothers and their spouses attended. It was held in late July at the Blatt’s second home in Frisco, CO. In early 2021, the Blatt's announced that they and Don Edson, ZΔ '63, and his wife, Pam, would host the next reunion. The reunions occurred about every three years over the past decades. Doug and Marge were regular attendees at the reunions of the Alpha Zeta Delta Brothers from the early-to-mid-1960 delegations. Thereafter, he remained active with the Alpha and mentored numerous undergraduates, sharing with them his love for Chi Psi. Additionally, he was instrumental in two specific programs of the Alpha: Family Weekend and the George D. Doug was involved with the recolonization and activation of the Alpha. He was initiated a second time into the Bonds by the Brothers of Alpha Psi Delta on Apr. Doug, immediately upon returning to his home in Lakewood, connected with the Alpha Psi Delta alumni corporation and became an integral member. The National Fraternity and the Alpha granted his request and he was initiated into the Brotherhood with the undergraduates of Alpha Zeta Delta in 2011. Doug’s love for Chi Psi never waned and he submitted a request to become an Alumni Initiate. Spending quality time with Marge, their sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren was his top priority. During the past winter, as he turned 80, Doug squeezed 40 ski days into his semi-retirement. Doug volunteered for the National Sports Center for the Disabled at Winter Park as a ski instructor.

Doug, Marge and their three sons became avid snow skiers and, later on, added golf to their passions. He always did his best to help his clients plan for their fu-tures and did so with thoughtfulness and integrity. Doug started a new career in insurance, later broad-ening into financial planning and investment advisory services. The lure of the Colorado mountains caused them to move to the Denver area in 1969. Doug and Marge were school teachers in the Chicago suburbs and started their family there. Through the years that followed, Doug maintained his numerous friendships with members of his Pledge Class and Brothers. They married and celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to Doug’s death. After transferring from the Univer-sity of Illinois, he graduated from Southern Illinois University and completed his graduate school studies at Northern Illi-nois University where he met the love of his life, Marge. He pledged Chi Psi, where he made fast and lifelong friendships.
